A Town Hall Wedding in Hoorn, Then Amsterdam
By Aleksandria Rudenko | Updated 27 October 2026

After a town hall wedding in Hoorn, the bride and groom came to Amsterdam for a walk along the canals. I photographed both: the vows and signatures in Hoorn, then the two of them in the low December sun.
Hoorn is a historic harbor town on the Markermeer, less than an hour north of Amsterdam. Its town hall has a wedding room of its own.
Days like this are what my wedding photography in Amsterdam is about: the real moments first, then time for just the two of you.
Sunlight on the Town Hall in Hoorn
We began outside, under the big letters that spell Stadhuis, Dutch for town hall, above the glass doors. The low sun lit the pale front of the building and threw long shadows across the square.
The bride wore a short off-the-shoulder dress with soft pleats and a long tulle veil. The groom chose a cream suit with a black shirt. When a breeze lifted the veil during their kiss, I only had to be ready.

Vows in the Town Hall Wedding Room
Inside, the wedding room was calm and modern: a curved wooden table, pink flowers, round pendant lamps and long pale curtains. For the vows they stood hand in hand at the table, heads bowed.
I stayed at the back and the sides, so nothing came between them and the moment. Then came their first hug as a married couple, while a guest looked on.

Two Signatures at the Table
Next, they signed the register at the same table. The bride went first while the groom waited beside her. Then he bent over the register himself, and those two signatures made their town hall wedding in Hoorn official.

Rings in the Amsterdam Sun
In Amsterdam, they held up their hands to show their new rings, laughing. I came in close for the detail: her hand on his, two simple bands and her watch.
Then we walked down a busy shopping street, right between the tram tracks. Shoppers streamed around them and the veil trailed behind, yet their kiss still felt private.

Low Winter Sun on a Canal Bridge
On a canal bridge, the sun sat low behind the gables, so I shot straight into it. Their shadows stretched across the bricks, and the light flared around them. He lifted her off her feet, and she laughed with one leg in the air.
Later, on a bench under a tree by the water, they finally sat down for a moment.

A Wreath on Door Number 11
We ended at a black door with a Christmas wreath, house number 11. The season gave us that frame for free. In the last light, the wind caught the veil once more.
Then they walked toward a red lamp post by the canal, and I let them go. It was a gentle ending to a town hall wedding in Hoorn and a winter walk in Amsterdam.
