An Elopement Among the Tulips at Keukenhof
By Aleksandria Rudenko | Updated 28 October 2026

This elopement at Keukenhof was just the two of them: a white tulle dress, a light gray blazer and a garden in full bloom. I guided them past tulip beds and walls of rhododendrons on a sunny afternoon in spring.
Days like this are what my tulip photoshoots at Keukenhof are made for: color everywhere and all the time in the world for the two of you.
Tall Trees and Tulip Beds at Keukenhof
Keukenhof lies near Lisse, less than an hour from Amsterdam, and opens for only about eight weeks each spring. We started under the tall trees, where the sun fell through the leaves onto beds of yellow, pink and orange tulips.
For an elopement at Keukenhof, I like to begin wide. First the place, then the people: from a distance, the two of them looked small between the flowers, and that was exactly the point. Late in the afternoon, the crowds also thin out and the light turns warmer. That gave us room to work without strangers in every frame.

A Dance to a Flute and Bassoon
She wore a white tea-length dress with a corset top, sheer panels at the waist and lacing down the back. He chose a light gray blazer, a pale blue tie and navy trousers. I gave them small things to do, like walking, whispering or a kiss on the cheek, and the rest came naturally.

Then he took her hand and kissed it, half joking and half gallant, among the tulips. That frame opens this story. A few steps on, red tulips glowed behind them while they kissed.

A little later, we heard music. By a small thatched garden house, a flutist and a bassoonist were playing, so he twirled her right there on the path. Moments like that cannot be planned; I only had to stay ready.

A Ring in a Pink Rhododendron
Further along, the rhododendrons were in full bloom, in soft pink and deep red. Their big, round blossoms grow at face height, so they make a soft frame for close portraits. For one detail, her ring rested in a pink blossom. After that, she held a cluster of the same flowers close to her face.

Back together, he burst out laughing while she looked up at him, with pink blossoms all around them.

In front of a bright pink bush, they held each other close and went quiet for a while. From behind, the lacing of her dress caught the light.

An Elopement Ending on a Garden Path
We ended by a wall of red rhododendrons, the strongest color of the whole afternoon. He kissed her cheek, and she leaned into him, smiling. I kept the frame simple, because the red did all the work.

Finally, they walked away hand in hand down a curving path lined with red tulips. It was a quiet last frame for an elopement at Keukenhof: no guests, no schedule, only the two of them and the garden.
